JERSEY WOOLY PROFILE
Bonnie Seeley, of New Jersey, invented the Wooly breed in the late 1970's. The Wooly is a cross between a French Angora and a Netherland Dwarf.
Woolies generally weigh between 2 1/2 and 3 pounds and have beautiful Angora-like wool. Woolies shed their long, soft wool about twice a year. Junior Woolies will also shed their baby coats at about 11 weeks of age, and although they can look quite silly for a week or so, in no time, they will have their characteristic adult coats.
A Wooly's body type is compact with a blocky head and wool that drapes over its rump. Ears are erect, and there is a furry wool cap on its head between the ears.
Woolies have superb personalities! They are normally gentle and calm with a touch of playfulness. Woolies love to be petted and held, and they'll do just about anything to get your attention!
Woolies have a few more breed characteristics:
Ear Length- Ideally 2 1/2 inches
Life Span- 8 years or more
Litter Size- 2 to 8 is most common
Color Groups- Agouti, Self, Shaded, Tan & AOV (Any Other Variety)
Jersey Woolies make great pets, but they are also excellent show rabbits. Some spinners have also found their wool to be nice for spinning into yarn. However, because Woolies are dwarf-sized, they don't produce as much wool as Angoras to make it very worthwhile.
And, hey, if you just need a furry little pal around to keep you company, a Senior Wooly might be the perfect companion for you!
